Vanish Case Study

Vanish and Ambitious about Autism set out to make the UK more comfortable for autistic people by proving that clothes are more than just clothes.

The challenge was clear: 56% of autistic young people say school is a daily challenge because of uniform, 1 in 3 autistic people won’t apply for a job because of mandatory workplace uniform, and 70% believe their lives would improve if people understood why clothes matter.

More Than Just Clothes launched with animated documentary films telling the stories of autistic girls in their own words, showing how treasured clothing can provide comfort, routine, sensory regulation and identity.

The campaign moved beyond awareness into action.

It became a sensory book co-written with 350 autistic people and shared with educators, employers and policymakers.

One proposed new law was taken to Parliament with the subjects of the films.

A hand-sewn version of the book was taken to Parliament, where the subjects of the films took part in the push for change, helping MPs and Lords understand how small clothing adjustments could make school, work and daily life more inclusive.

More Than Just Clothes turned a clothing care brand into a platform for real-world change.

The campaign went on to influence Government recommendations ahead of the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill. It raised understanding, shaped policy conversations and helped make everyday environments more comfortable for autistic people.
